Statement by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Dublin on the US Military Aggression against Iran and Iran’s Defensive Response

The list of US crimes against the Iranian people has once again been extended by another horrific chapter.

On Tuesday night, 1 September 2026, the United States once again carried out acts of military aggression against Iran, targeting civilian areas and essential service infrastructure in several provinces, including Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman.

One of the most horrific of these attacks was the strike on a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, where a residential area was targeted while families were celebrating a wedding. More than 70 of our compatriots were killed or injured in the attack, the overwhelming majority of them women and children.

These brutal attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law and are a continuation of the chain of crimes previously committed against Iranian civilians in Minab, Lamerd, Qeshm and other areas.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran extends its condolences to the bereaved Iranian families and stresses the responsibility of all governments and the United Nations to pursue, prosecute and punish those responsible for, and those who ordered, grave violations of international humanitarian law.

In response to this aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran exercised its inherent right of self-defense, in accordance with international law. The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran targeted US military bases that served as the origin and support for the military aggression against Iran.

The United Nations, particularly the Security Council and the Secretary-General, must fulfill their responsibilities under the UN Charter. Silence and inaction in the face of continued violations of the Charter, particularly Article 2(4), further undermine the credibility of the United Nations and endanger international peace and security.

Silence is not neutrality. When unlawful attacks and the killing of civilians are justified on political grounds, the line between condemning a crime and normalizing it begins to disappear; turning a blind eye to injustice only emboldens those who perpetrate it.
