Statement of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ireland
on the Crimes of Aggression Committed by the
United States of America and the Zionist Regime against Iran
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its profound sorrow and deepest condolences on the martyrdom of His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei (may his soul be sanctified), Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, who was martyred as a result of a violent and unlawful act of aggression carried out by the United States of America and the Zionist regime.
Throughout his life, the Supreme Leader remained inseparable from the people of Iran. Contrary to fabrications propagated by certain media outlets, he stood united with the nation—resolute and steadfast in defending the ideals, independence, dignity, and territorial integrity of Iran until his final breath. His life embodied unwavering devotion to the country and to the enduring principles of the Islamic Revolution.
Since the onset of a new wave of unprovoked and unjustified aggression on 28 February 2026 against the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, military strikes have deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and humanitarian relief facilities and personnel. These attacks have resulted in the martyrdom of dozens of innocent civilians, including women and children, and have left many more injured. Such actions constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, requiring urgent and decisive action by international community and the United Nations to halt these attacks and ensure accountability.
On the first day of the aggression, the deliberate destruction of a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, resulted in the martyrdom of more than 170 schoolgirls in broad daylight. Their bodies were recovered from the rubble following hours of rescue operations. According to official reports, the attack occurred while students were present in their classrooms. This act in itself nullifies any claim by the United States of America and the Zionist regime seeking to justify their military aggression. Similar attacks on the same day claimed the lives of students in other cities, including eastern Tehran and Abyek in Qazvin Province, reflecting a systematic targeting of civilians that falls within the definition of crimes against humanity.
On 1 March 2026, attacks were carried out against Red Crescent facilities; Gandi, Motahari, and Khatam Hospitals in Tehran; Abouzar Hospital in Ahvaz; and three emergency response checkpoints in Sarab, Chabahar, and Hamedan. Several residential buildings in northern Tehran were also struck. On the morning of 2 March 2026, missiles hit a densely populated residential area in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province. The precise number of casualties resulting from these attacks remains under investigation.
The deliberate targeting of schools, hospitals, humanitarian facilities, and residential areas represents grave breaches of international humanitarian law and demonstrates a blatant disregard for the most fundamental principles of humanity, including the right to life of civilians.
Meanwhile, the silence and inaction of certain countries, international human rights mechanisms, and organizations claiming to defend children's rights are deeply concerning.
Double standards, politicization, and selective reactions undermine the credibility of the international system for the protection of human rights and weaken public trust in these institutions.
Targeting defenseless children crosses all legal, human, and moral red lines. The international community bears a grave responsibility in the face of this historical test. Continued silence in response to such atrocities risks enabling further violations and setting a dangerous precedent for future generations.
In light of these ongoing and grave crimes committed during this aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran solemnly calls upon all nations and governments, including Ireland, as well as all relevant international bodies, to take immediate, concrete, and effective measures to condemn these acts, prevent further violations, and hold those responsible fully accountable under international law.
The Embassy further extends its condolences to freedom-loving peoples and resilient nations around the world and reaffirms that the path of those who have sacrificed their lives in defense of their nation and its principles shall continue.
